The PurchaseProcess
What you do. What I do.

Palm Beach Yacht Broker

In all cases- the normal broker commission is 10%, whether you have your own broker, or not. Why not have a knowledgeable expert in your corner when assessing purchase options and getting the best deal possible on the best boat?

Why you need to have your own broker - and not go with the Seller's Broker

It's simple- the seller's broker aims to get the highest price possible for the yacht. In some cases, they may also use a surveyor who they have a 'chummy' relationship with...

These days, the giant brokerage houses operate more like car dealers than traditional yacht brokers. The randomly assigned brokers often offer up yachts they have no knowledge of, and they run away from the client the minute there is a deal signed, at which point the brokerage "deal closers" take over the transaction.

Why use Paul Madden as your broker?

  • I am not pushing a particular boat or representing a Seller - my goal is to help you get the right vessel for you and your family.

  • I research the availability and pricing on your chosen vessel options

    • of those, which ones are worth having a look at?

    • on inspection, I will help you analyze the vessel so you can make decisions.

  • Once we have a short list, we need to:

    • sometimes, re-visit the top choice.

    • do a market study on actual prices paid for similar vessels.

  • We will craft an offer which may include contingencies specific to the vessel, such as requiring Seller to get updated certificates and scheduled engine maintenance.

    • In all cases, we will want to protect your deposit in the eventuality that you reject the vessel, so that you will not lose your deposit, or have it locked in an unreasonable escrow.

      • We will jointly decide on the best hull surveyor, and the engine surveyors.

  • The sea trial will normally precede the out-of-water survey.

    • If a vessel fails to perform during sea trial, or issues with noise and vibration arise, you will have the option of cancelling the deal and not incur full survey fees/costs.

  • I have never had a survey that did not uncover 'issues' and deficiencies.

    • Some issues can be 'deal-breakers'; others may require the Seller to provide remedies (at his cost), or a new purchase price may be negotiated on the basis of previously undisclosed anomalies.

  • I will personally oversee the title transfer, flagging, assist with insurance/financing and the final delivery.
